UNCHARTED TERRITORY

Very little specific information exists for these islands. For their geography and features, we primarily used references from the 1997 The Lost World: Jurassic Park and the 2001 Jurassic Park III movies. Specifically, the wall map seen in The Lost World gave us the overall shape and layout of the islands, while other sources helped us place mountains, rivers, and lakes, as well as vegetation types.

The Legacy of Isla Sorna

Isla Sorna, also known as “Site B,”  is the largest and most important of the islands of the Muertes Archipelago. The two Jurassic Park movies that played here feature several scenes filmed on Hawaiian islands. As with Isla Nublar, we spliced in the corresponding real-world elevation data into our base terrain; three sections in the west and two more in the east and south.

For the aviary river canyon, which for Jurassic Park III was created as a combination of soundstage structures and CGI, we found a suitable look-alike canyon in southern Idaho. We used its elevation data and transposed it to Isla Sorna.o. The two Jurassic Park movies that played here feature several scenes filmed on Hawaiian islands. As with Isla Nublar, we spliced in the corresponding real-world elevation data into our base terrain; three sections in the west and two more in the east and south.

In terms of built structures, we followed the general consensus that the events of The Lost World took place on the eastern half of Isla Sorna while those of the Jurassic Park III movie played on the western half of the island. Thus, you’ll find the Worker Village on the eastern plains – watch out for the tall grass areas near the local airstrip! – and the Aviary, InGen Compound, and Jurassic Park III airstrip in the west.

Mystery of the Outer Isles

The four other main islands of the archipelago – Matanceros, Muerta, Tacno, and Peña, differ in their geography but have only limited built infrastructure. We placed airstrips and helipads in interesting or challenging locations to guide explorations of the local terrain, and your hunt for local “Easter eggs.”
